This is a favorite picture in my family. It is me as a soldier during WWII enjoying R&R on the balcony, overlooking the sea at the Hotel Negresco in France. I was given a 4 day pass.
My children have posing me in the same position in later years.
I am interested in your picture at the Negresco Hotel in Nice, 1945. My father, James David Hill, was an officer there at the same time. He met my mother, a french woman Lucie Masse, who took a position as a secretary there around Easter of 1945. They were married in Oct of the same year. Did you by chance know them?
Hi there! I was interested in hearing more about the furlough you received to go to Nice France and stayed at the hotel. I've seen another picture of another soldier on the same balcony. Was this something that was commonly done for the troops? Can you tell more about the story? Love to hear it!
My father, Leroy Keller was in the 69th Division. He was there on leave in March of 1945 as well. I have a picture of him in front of the hotel. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/33610759/person/18503216908/fact/80213774519/media/2?pg=32771&pgpl=pid|aid
